(Note: I’m writing this in the middle of the work, so I haven’t properly checked the teaser yet.)
I’m happy to see the new looks of the gang, their new updates are incredible
Maybe Sten could have a design or pattern on his shirt, maybe with a color that isn’t too distracting to the eye.
Hayden and Dume’s designs are so cute!~ (Plus I enjoy the fact that you included her parts division)
As for the social stats, I am incredibly curious about each of these “voices” inside Morgan. Would it mean that the finished product would have multiple endings depending on the actions someone does in the game?
That’s right! The endings are partially dependent on Morgan’s growth with these stats, as well as his actions during the game.
There is a lot to unpack with having finished the teaser and all the info provided here. I feel like all of the design changes are steps in the right direction, and the one I like the most is surprisingly a character I kinda felt “meh” towards before, Honda. I’m very excited for the social stats part of this. It definitely feels like you have to do a lot more soul searching to pick make choices in this game compared to Snoot or Wani (while I love the choices in those games and what they represent, they did sometimes boil down to “be reasonable or lose your cool”).
After the demo, I really don’t feel like I know which direction this game is going (which is actually a very good thing). I had joked with friends before that this game had, unironically, “major Persona vibes”. That really got shattered with just the 20 minutes we were afforded here. I can honestly say I’ve never had an experience like the body horror and existentialism that Morgan faced. Even if you guys feel like you’ve taken from other games and media, the ideas are still presented in a way that feels fresh and exciting.
You’ve taken this form a project that I was happy to let sit on the backburner to my second most anticipated game coming soon (the Shredder’s Revenge guys are making a new beat ’em up). Very great progress, and I’m eager for more news.
Given the Disco Elysium inspiration, I wonder if there are going to be a lot of story branches (would certainly be cool but that would probably increase the workload exponentially) and if it’s possible for you to be locked out of certain dialog choices due to insufficient social stats. Either way the story teaser has worked its magic on me and I’m really interested in seeing how the story unfolds.
Multiple endings are one of our favorite things to do, I think they really bring out the tragedy/meaning in the game to be able to juxtapose how bad things can get with how great they can be. It’s too far away to say for certain how exactly the player should reach them, but I definitely do want varying endings for Exit. Maybe Morgan can relapse into covering himself up?
A comment that best summarizes my feelings about the demo in the shortest amount of time is just “More!” I want everything shown and more, and am very excited for the full release when it’s ready. Which, I think is a perfect showing for a demo. The inner voices dialogue and art felt as thick and delicious as a strawberry shake, definitely my favorite part. I think my only wish that won’t happen for this game is a VA with the same presence of Disco’s inner voice narrator. But, using my imagination, I read all the dialogue with his voice anyways, so this was kind of the perfect game. Good luck to your team, and I can’t wait to see more!
Voice acting I believe would be incredibly expensive and time consuming to implement, but it would be interesting, I agree. I do see now how it could be done, hearing people stream it and give them voices out loud
Love the demo, super hyped for the game. Ugh, it’s so hard to wait for things when they are so significant, of which I mean I appreciate these games so much I cannot simply tune out the passing of time for the release. mmmmh, gonna buy that merch boi, gonna buy that merch!
